SHILLONG: The South Khasi Hills district unit of Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has petitioned the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council and Hima Sohra against issuance of no-objection certificate to the Border Security Force for setting up its headquarters in Sohra.
The petition to KHADC chief executive member, PN Syiem and Hima Sohra chief, Freeman Sing Syiem, stated BSF’s plan to set up its headquarters on a plot of 70 to 100 acres along the Shillong-Sohra road.
The union asserted that the land fell under the jurisdiction of the Syiem of Hima Sohra.
The KSU members however said that the Hima Sohra chief, Freeman had once again assured them that he would not give away the land to the BSF.
The union urged the Hima Sohra chief to remain steadfast in his assurance and also requested the KHADC chief executive member not to give in to any demand that may be made by the paramilitary force in this regard.
