Shillong: The Executive Engineer, PWD (Roads), Mawsynram Division has informed that the SPT (Timber) Bridge No.24/5 on Mawynram-Hatmawdon-Ryngku road is unsafe for plying of trucks and buses due to weakening of the worn-out timber decking.
To ensure safety to the vehicles and the public, plying of heavy loaded vehicles is restricted to a loading capacity of 9.0 tons as there are other similar timber bridges on this road that have become structurally weak.
The Executive Engineer also informed that repairing works to bridge No. 24/5 to restore the movement of vehicles especially trucks and buses is in progress. Drivers have been alerted to drive cautiously.
