SHILLONG: The Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) on Tuesday conducted the inventorisation in the Punjabi line (Them Iew Mawlong) amid protest demonstration staged by the women residents of the colony.
Speaking to media persons during the survey, SMB, Chief Executive Officer, BS Sohliya, said that there was not much cooperation from the residents of the colony as most of the households in the colony found locked
In the survey, the SMB besides listing the houses, were to carry out head counts of the people residing in the area as part of the exercise.
It may be mentioned that the municipal is conducting the exercise as per the directive of the High Level Committee (HLC) in order to identify the legal and illegal settlers in the area
He also said that they had held discussions with the leaders of the colony to ensure that the exercise is being carried smoothly
Sohliya further informed that the exercise might take a day or two to complete.
A total number of six teams with three members each accompany by two police personnel were involved in the inventory survey.
According to Sohliya, a total number of 128 employees of the SMB are residing in this area.
Later, a two-member delegation of the National Human Rights Commission also visited the colony and met the residents of the colony
However, the details of the meeting were not divulged by the officials. One of the member told media persons said that they have visited this place as per the directive of the commission.
