Former St. Edmund’s prof no more

SHILLONG: Prof. Agha J. N. Ahmed, former Head of the Department of Economics, St. Edmund’s College, Shillong passed away on Tuesday in Shillong. He was 80.
Prof. Ahmed was born on November1, 1938 and retired from St. Edmund’s College on April 1, 2000 after almost 40 years of service in the institution.  
Prof. Ahmed was an amiable personality, a successful teacher and was much respected and loved by his colleagues, friends and students through his depth of knowledge, wisdom, wit and most pleasing nature.  
He was also an avid sports-lover in addition to being associated with a number of social organisations and academic bodies. He maintained a very dignified post-retirement life and remained active through social activities. 
In a statement, the Meghalaya Retired College Teachers’ Association (MRCTA) condoled his death.
While paying homage to him, the MRCTA shared the sorrow and pain of the bereaved family.  
The governing body members, teaching and non-teaching staff of Umshyrpi College also conveyed their condolences over the demise of Prof Ahmed, who also held the post of the vice-president, governing body of the college.
