SHILLONG: South Tura legislator Agatha Sangma will resign from her post in the first week of July to pave way for her brother and Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to contest the seat.
Conrad has to contest and win the seat before September 6 as the deadline of six months will expire on that day since he was sworn in as the chief minister on March 6.
NPP leader and North Tura legislator Thomas Sangma said on Wednesday that after the chief minister returns from Delhi either on July 2 or 3, a decision will be made on vacating the South Tura seat.
Earlier on June 21, Congress legislator M.M Danggo had resigned from the party to seek re-election from Ranikor on an NPP ticket.
Once Agatha resigns, the two by-elections — one in South Tura and another in Ranikor — are likely to be held simultaneously.
