Meet aims to ensure industry-rural youth connect

NONGPOH: The Deen Dayal Upadhya Grameen Kaushalya Yojna Cell, SIRD, Nongsder, in association with different project implementing agencies organised the first CXO meet in Meghalaya here on Wednesday with an aim to ensure a connect between the industry and unemployed youths of the district.
The programme held at District Library Auditorium Hall was inaugurated by H.K Thabah, extra assistant commissioner in the presence of G.S Lyndem, chief operating officer of DDU-GKY, J.K Lohani, state programme manager (finance) DDU-GKY, L. Dkhar, state programme manager (skills) and others.
The programme was participated by the youths, headmen, Gramsevaks of the district C&RD Blocks and others.
The officials of the DDU-GKY Cell, SIRD highlighted the objectives of the DDU-GKY which was launched by the government of India as a skill development programme focused on rural BPL youth to inject employable skills and transform lives. The DDU-GKY is also targetted at rural youths from poor families with an inclusive agenda.
The state government in association with different PIAs such as Apollo Medskills Ltd, Guwahati and Shillong Centre, NIAM Educational Foundation, Nongsder Ri Bhoi among others are running training centres catering to various sectors such as healthcare, beauty and wellness, BPOs and hospitality.
The duration of training ranges from three to 12 months, and after training, the candidates are placed in companies as per their skills.
The officials of DDU-GKY also informed that the registered candidates should be in the 18 to 35 years age group and must have passed Class VIII.
Thabah, while delivering his speech, lauded and appreciated the initiatives taken by the government for better livelihood opportunities for the unemployed youths.
He informed that DDU-GKY is providing free skills training and free lodging for trainees.
“Unemployed youths of the district should take this opportunity and register themselves for training in any sector according to their skills,” Thabah said.
He also appealed to the headmen and, parents to convey the message to other youths about the partnership with companies for placement of trained candidates under the flagship of DDU-GKY for their prosperous future.
