SHILLONG: The High Level Committee (HLC) dealing with the Sweepers’ Lane issue has asked the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) to provide the names of the employees after the Board failed to enumerate the residents of the Lane.
Earlier, protests marked the inventorisation of Punjabi Lane following which the Board did not continue with the task since many houses were found locked.
Tynsong said on Thursday that in this context, as the chairman of the HLC, he had asked the SMB to provide details about the residents according to the register available with the Board.
To a question, Tynsong said the purpose is to identify the staff of the Shillong Municipal Board residing in Punjabi Lane.
The chairman of the HLC said the committee will compile various memorandums submitted by several stakeholders.
He also said the residents of Punjabi Lane were free to submit their views to the HLC.
HLC not for buying time
Tynsong made it clear that the HLC is committed to solve the issue once and for all.
“The committee was constituted to carry out the task seriously and we will ensure that there is lasting solution”, Tynsong said.
He added that the MDA Government formed the committee not for any delaying tactic and added that ‘the government means business’.
