SHILLONG: The resident doctors of NEIGRIHMS have expressed their dissatisfaction on the minutes of the meeting held on June 25.
A statement issued by the resident doctors of Cardiology Department said that the minutes circulated to them has not addressed their grievances to the logical conclusion as were mentioned in the agenda item before the meeting and they would make the representation for complete resolution of the issues as they wanted the modified minutes.
Earlier, the NEIGRIHMS director had issued a circular wherein Doctor of Medicine (DM) Cardiology examination was scheduled for June/July this year and in spite of the best efforts of the dean and controller of examination, the DM Cardiology final year students did not submit the form along with examination fees for issuance of admit cards.
“It was also observed in the minutes of the meeting that the students were blamed that they have absented from theory paper examination. This is factually incorrect as they have not even submitted their examination fees out of protest against the miscommunications and arbitrary orders,” the statement said.
According to doctors, it is also noted that how the date of examination was declared without the annual performance/assessment report of the students from the HoD Cardiology and how the concerned department would be in a position to enforce the students to appear in the examination or to submit the thesis as there has been complete miscommunication from the academic administration of the institute.
Inspite of repeated request made by the students and the HoD Cardiology, the academic administration has failed to pass an order stating that the letter issued by various sections of the academic administration were suppressed and the decision of the Board of Studies would prevail, the statement said.
The residents of Cardiology Department also submitted a representation to the Director on the circular and minutes of the meeting held earlier this month.
The representation said “It is surprising to see that a Director of an Institute of excellence issuing such an immature circular lacking in all compartments and the circular issued on June 26 is reflection of the mind of Director only and issued with a malicious intent.”
Regarding appearance of students of DM in final year exam, the petition said it is understood that without filling up the required forms, a student cannot appear in examination and the form was not filled as administration failed to address the issues pertaining to harassment of students, issuance of orders not allowing students to sit in examination without any valid justification.
“Pressurising students to cooperate in wrong practices of examination is not justified. Also the Director apologised himself for the current situation and also for the team of faculties associated with the process. So why blame the students again for the circumstances that arise due to complete administrative failure and miscommunication. Without addressing the issues properly, it is very disheartening to see that students are being blamed repeatedly by
