SHILLONG: The state government has identified 300 acres of land at New Shillong Township where the 2022 National Games Village will be constructed along with stadiums, swimming pool for competition, cycling track among others.
Initially, the government is expected to get Rs 300 crore from the Centre to begin with its preparation.
Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh said the issues related to infrastructure facilities will be addressed by August-September this year.
“The sports department has done its homework and preparation for the National Games is going on,” Lyngdoh said.
The state government functionaries also met the Union sports minister and finance minister seeking financial help for holding the National Games.
The 2022 Games will have 36 disciplines and the venues are likely to spread across East Khasi Hills, Ri Bhoi, Ampati and Tura.
However, the final selection of venues will be done by the organising committee headed by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
