Alert sounded as heavy rain continues in Shillong

SHILLONG: As heavy rain continues to lash the city and other parts,  East Khasi Hills District Administration has asked different departments to be on alert.

East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, PS Dkhar said that departments  under the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) like Fire and Emergency services,  PWD, Forest, Health and Police had been asked to remain alert  in view of the rains in the city

He also said that the standard procedure was that the DDMA reacts immediately if any such calamity occurs.

This  year as of now, no landslides or tree felling has been reported in the city .

Apart from rains, Shillong and other parts is also experiencing heavy winds since past few days

Last year, three people were killed near Raj Bhawan when a huge tree fell on the road due to incessant rains.

It is learnt that the department of Forest is identifying trees  in the city which are risky in nature.

The Indian Meteorological department has also warned that Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya on  Wednesday and Thursday

Shillong has also Recorded  27.6  mm of rainfalls  during 8.30 am of Monday till 8.30 am Tuesday morning
