TURA: Flash floods caused by heavy rain in South West Garo Hills washed away a two-year-old girl on Tuesday.
The incident happened around 3 pm at Magurmari village under Zikzak Block. The toddler had followed her father who had gone to a nearby well to take bath.
Police said the girl was presumed to have been washed away while she was returning home. Her slippers were found on the bank of a stream. “When the mother saw that her daughter had followed her father, she was sent home alone. She went missing soon after that and the mother suspects that she must have been swept away as her slippers were found on the bank,” SP Bobby Momin said. (Till the filing of this report, police were yet to recover the body and a search is on by Fire Service and SDRF teams.
Heavy rain began on Sunday and continued to lash the Garo Hills region transforming every stream into a raging torrent. Flood in other parts of the region has not been reported so far.
