Congress shortlists candidates for Ranikor by-poll: Shangpliang

SHILLONG: Congress spokesperson HM Shangpliang informed that the party candidates for by-election to  Ranikor  constituency had been  shortlisted and the final decision rested on the party high command.

He told reporters on Thursday, “The Congress is definitely putting up candidate in Ranikor for the by-election. Candidates are shortlisted, but the decision will be taken by the High Command.”

“The preparation is currently at the base level. The primary unit level is being constituted afresh and after that we will take the next step on selecting a candidate,” he added.

Asked on the speculation of Congress’ support to UDP candidate, Pius Marwein, Shangpliang said the party was examining all factors. However, he made it clear that the Congress was fielding a candidate.
