SHILLONG: Congress spokesperson H.M Shangpliang on Thursday informed that names of probable candidates for the Ranikor by-election have been shortlisted and the decision now rests on the party high command.
“The Congress is definitely putting up a candidate from Ranikor.
Names of some candidates have been shortlisted, but the decision now lies with the high command”, he said.
“The preparation is currently at the base level. The primary unit level is being constituted afresh and after that we will take a call on selecting a suitable candidate”, he added.
Asked on the speculation of Congress’ support to UDP candidate, Pius Marwein, Shangpliang said the party is examining all factors but a candidate will be definitely fielded from Ranikor.
The Ranikor circle of UDP had earlier said that it would approach the Congress, among other parties, to garner support for Pius Marwein.
