SHILLONG: Members of the students’ union at Sohra Government College met Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Thursday and demanded the creation of Mathematics and Statistics departments and introduction of commerce and science sections.
The union’s president, Ethylbert Khongrymmai, said creation of the two departments in the college is the need of the hour. Also, “there are parents who cannot afford to send their wards to Shillong to study science and commerce. So students opt for Arts”, he added.
Other demands of the union include hostels, bus services, fencing of the campus and security personnel to check trespassers, punctuality of students and identity cards.
As assured by the minister, the union will wait for two months for fulfilment of their demands.
