SHILLONG: The state Congress has reiterated that the party will field candidates in the by-election to both Ranikor and South Tura seats.
MPCC working president James Lyngdoh said the party would field candidates after the announcement of the by-poll dates.
“At present, the process of revamping the Ranikor Block Congress Committee (RBCC) is being done by a team of BCC members led by its convener,” he said.
The Ranikor seat fell vacant after former Congress leader M.M Danggo resigned from the party and the post of MLA on June 21. He will seek re-election from NPP.
The MPCC’s announcement comes a day after Congress MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh doubted the party had any one in Ranikor who can contest the election. Even NPP state president W.R Kharlukhi had, earlier, expressed doubt that the Congress will even get a candidate to contest the by-poll.
