Woman in WGH duped by online scamster
SHILLONG: A woman from Dalu in West Garo Hills has been allegedly duped out of Rs 2.5 lakh by one person whom she had met on social media. Police sources said that the Cyber Crime wing is investigating the matter and the case has been registered. According to the FIR, the woman had accepted a friend request from an unknown person on social media back in December last year who later cheated her on the pretext of sending her gifts and money after she had sent the money. Police sources while expressing confidence that the case will be cracked also added that they are awaiting complete details of the money deposits which had been done.
Blood donation camp held at Assam Rifles
SHILLONG: A voluntary blood donation camp was organised by the NEIGRIHMS Blood Bank under the supervision of Blood Bank Officer Dr. Lutika at the Assam Rifles multispecialty hospital in Laitkor on Friday. A total of 109 volunteers – 102 males and 7 females – donated blood at the camp. The Director of NEIGRIHMS acknowledged the contribution by the volunteers and thanked the Director General of Assam Rifles for supporting the boble cause.
BSF seizes cattle, contraband along intl border
SHILLONG: Frequent seizures of cattle by BSF troops along the international border in Meghalaya indicate a phenomenal increase in cattle smuggling as smugglers grow more daring with each passing day. In one incident which took place on Saturday, BSF troops deployed along the international border at Nayabazar in East Khasi Hills seized 36 cattle. Similarly, BSF troops deployed at Muktapur, Lamasaki in West Jaintia Hills and in Umsiyam, Naljuri and Tuka in East Khasi Hills seized 36 more cattle while being smuggled from India to Bangladesh. A total haul of 72 cattle worth more than Rs 12.5 lakh were seized on the same day. The BSF informed that the smugglers were trying to smuggle the cattle through the unfenced area but were foiled in their attempts. The BSF has seized 215 cattle and contraband items worth more than Rs 54.4 lakh including one gold biscuit in the last week from places such as Tuka, Nayabazar, Lyngkhat, Umsiyam, Ryngkua, OP Shella, Muktapur and Lamasaki. All seized items have been handed over to the concerned department for further legal action.
Youth pilgrimage held at Selsella
SHILLONG: A Youth Pilgrimage was organised by the Rajabala Zone at St. Joseph’s Church in Selsella on Saturday. The zone consists of eight parishes namely Garobadha, Selsella, Rajabala, Mronggre, Tikrikilla, Muktidatha, Darenchigre and Rabhagre. More than 400 pilgrims turned up for the programme which was held as part of the Year of Youth celebrations. Rosina Marak from Garobadha led the morning prayers followed by a welcome speech by Diocesan Youth Secretary Fr. Lyndoh. Holy Eucharist was presided over by Selsella Parish Priest Fr. Jimberth K. Marak who also spoke about the importance and significance of talent. The Vote of thanks was delivered by Fr. Lyndoh. The next Youth Pilgrimage will be held on July 21 at Resubelpara.
