SHILLONG: Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Tuesday remained tight-lipped when asked whether he was happy with the Centre’s decision to bring the North Eastern Council under the Home Ministry.
Deb, however, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi does not see North East as a conflict zone but he wants to develop the region economically. “After the Narendra Modi government, separate schemes worth Rs 54,000 crore were given to the North East,” he added.
The Tripura chief minister also said in a federal system, there can be discussions on issue and he sought time for addressing the concerns.
He added that the central government is playing its role effectively in the development of the region.
NEC is an apex regional planning body and comprises governors and chief ministers of all the eight northeastern states as its members. The Cabinet last month had approved the name of minister of state (independent charge) for the DoNER Ministry Jitendra Singh as vice chairman of the council.
