SHILLONG: Kalakairaly, Shillong has condoled the death of former Meghalaya Governor MM Jacob.
Jacob passed away in his hometown in Kerala on Sunday last.
The members of the socio cultural organisation in a special condolence meeting held on Tuesday mourned the demise of Jacob and recalled his contributions towards Kalakairaly as a patron and well wisher during its formative years.
In a statement, Aquarius Mathew, the general secretary of Kalakairly, said Jacob, who was the longest serving governor of Meghalaya for a period of 12 years from 1995 – 2007, was a “visionary” and a “true human being”.
The meeting noted that besides his gubernatorial duties, the late leader also made himself available to the people of Meghalaya and was equally liked and respected by the common people and the political class.
“His immeasurable contribution to politics, arts, culture, social discourse and his non partisanship during his tenure as governor will be fondly remembered and he will be greatly missed”, the statement said.
