Camp for issuing of UDID cards for PWDs conducted
JOWAI: The Office of the District Social Welfare, West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai on Thursday conducted an Assessment camp for issuing of Unique Disability Identity (UDID) Cards to Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). Around 75 PwDs were enrolled from all three Blocks of the district including Amlarem C&RD Block, Thadlaskein C&RD Block and Laskein C&RD Block at Dulong Community Hall, Jowai. District Social Welfare officer, J Synnah informed that all PwDs are required to get themselves registered with UDID portal, once registered they will be able to apply for online certificate and UDID card and can track the status of their application. She further informed that the identity cards will be issued only to those having disability of 40% or above. Once registered the PwDs can easily obtain and view schemed and benefits provided by the Government, this card is also valid all over India.

LP teachers demand job regularisation
TURA: Lower primary school teachers from East Garo Hills have sought regularisation of their services.The teachers, under the banner Non Government Lower Primary School Teachers’ Association, met Chief Minister Conrad Sangma at his residence in Tura on Wednesday and submitted a memorandum where they apprised him of financial hardships being faced by them due to the payment of salaries on quarterly basis. They added that the system of payment also deprives them of availing of bank loans. According to the teachers, as they are not entitled to benefits like death cum retirement gratuity, leave salary and new pension scheme they are forced to leave their services empty handed at the time of their retirement. With regard to the payment of DA, the teachers said it was very late which is causing problems.Stating that non government LP school teachers are holding regular posts as they have been sanctioned by the government, the association demanded that their salaries are paid on payscale basis. They pointed out that they have sufficient qualification and experience and are rendering the same service as regularised teachers.During the meeting, the teachers recalled instances where services of non-government LP school teachers have been regularised by the government and urged that the same is done for them. Meanwhile, Sangma is said to have assured them that the matter would be looked into and taken up with the Director of Education.
