TURA: The FIFA World Cup fever is reaching its zenith in the Garo Hills where soccer crazy fans are preparing to pull out all stops to watch the grand final on Sunday night.
In Tura and other towns, organizers in different localities are setting up giant screens on open grounds for soccer fans to watch the live telecast.
Tura, whose citizens are known for their love of the game are already a step ahead of the rest, holding live open air shows since the start of the quarter-finals.
A soccer loving fan and restaurant owner of ‘Meals and Memories’ in New Tura has been keeping soccer fans happy by telecasting the football matches on a giant screen ever since the first kickoff at the start of the tournament. With a hot meal to go with from the restaurant open for much of the night, supporters are not complaining.
Another hot and happening centre for football fans has been in Rongkhon locality of the town where an open air show of the matches has been going on since the quarter finals. Hosted by an ardent football, fan Gino A Sangma, it is drawing crowds for the 11:30 PM match telecast. Every goal scored in Russia is being acknowledged by the bursting of fire crackers here in Tura.
The state government has also joined the soccer show directing district officials to provide help all necessary help to fans who wish to watch the live matches in public places. West Garo Hills deputy commissioner Ram Singh has directed the sports department to sent up a live telecast of the matches at the Indoor Stadium hall in Hawakhana locality. The first screen took place during the semi-final match between England and Croatia on Tuesday night.
Organisers are expecting the crowds to swell during the third place play-off between England and Belgium on Saturday night and during the finals on Sunday when France face off with Croatia.
