SHILLONG: The insurance cover under the Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) will be hiked from the current Rs 2.8 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.
This was stated by Health Minister AL Hek, while addressing a gathering after inaugurating the Laitkor Health Sub centre on Saturday.
Hek was also full of praise for the MHIS saying the scheme is helping the people to a great extent particularly the poor.
Citing an example, Hek said the medical bill of a 14 year old girl, who underwent treatment in a city hospital was Rs 1.94 lakh and she received benefits of around Rs 90,000 from the MHIS.
The minister appealed to the people to come forward and enroll themselves to enable them to avail financial aid at the time of hospitalisation and treatment and reduce the out-of-pocket expenses of the beneficiaries.
Hek said the state is contemplating to inaugurate a state of the art diagnostic centre in the capital city of Shillong.
He said the government has identified two places for the project, including the Pasteur Institute in Shillong.
According to Hek, the government is committed to provide affordable, accessible and quality health care services to all sections of the society especially to the economically weaker section by opening more health centers in the state.
