TURA: Giving hope to the youth from the area that go elsewhere for their education the Chokpot Community College in South Garo Hills was inaugurated recently on the premises of the Chokpot Higher Secondary School.
South Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, H. B. Marak while speaking as the chief guest on the occasion congratulated the governing body members for initiating the opening of the community college in the area. Emphasizing on the importance of education in the modern era, the deputy commissioner assured all possible help and assistance from the district administration’s side.
Earlier, Additional Deputy Commissioner i/c and SDO (Civil), Chokpot, Z J Sangma informed that the opening of the college was conceptualised, planned and started in the hope that the government will fulfill its declared policy to establish community colleges in Meghalaya. Sangma also informed that classes will begin at the college from July 18 in the morning shift.
It may be mentioned that 80 Bighas of land needed for the construction of the college was donated by the Nokma of Daji Teksagre A’kingland.
