SCPCR for aid to minor rape victim’s family

SHILLONG: The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) will seek to help the family of a minor girl, who was fatally assaulted for resisting rape, with compensation.
When contacted, SCPCR chairperson Meena Kharkongor said, “Police have done their job and sent to the CWC (Child Welfare Committee). Let us see how we can help the family with the compensation.”
When the 14-year-old girl resisted rape attempt by Jansing Rani on July 3, the accused hit her on the head with a hand-hoe. The girl died on July 9.
Meanwhile, the Wahlang clan has condemned the attempted rape and murder and extended their condolence to the bereaved family. The clan has urged the state government to seriously look into the matter and to allow the punishment to be delayed.
