Maximum tests conducted on Assam fish

SHILLONG: The 20 spot tests conducted on Thursday in the city to find out the presence of formalin in fishes imported to Meghalaya, have been found negative.
Curiously, 16 spot tests were conducted on fishes imported from Morigaon, Assam, while only three spot tests were carried out on fishes like Rupchanda, Rahu and Katla imported from Andhra Pradesh and one from West Bengal.
However, the complaint was mostly regarding the fishes imported from Andhra Pradesh.
The surveillance report of fishes was submitted to the secretary, health and family welfare department. The officers of the Commissionerate of Food Safety and Directorate of Fishes had conducted the joint inspection of fresh fish for detection of formalin.
“All the samples tested negative for formalin”, the report said.
