SHILLONG: The Dawki-Shillong road upgradation project has been split into five packages due to pending land acquisition in defence areas and the border outpost in Dawki.
The NHIDCL status report said the move was based on the decision taken during project review.
The JICA loan agreement for the project was signed in March this year. The final detailed project report was submitted in last August.
The 95km road project is being taken up at a cost of Rs 1,377.5 crore, including the land acquisition.
The state government has already instructed the deputy commissioners of East Khasi Hills and West Jaintia Hills to start the process of land acquisition for the all-important Shillong-Dawki road project.
The road project, which is scheduled to be completed in two and a half years after the tender is issued, will also include a 368-meter long and 12.5-meter wide bridge across the Umngot river in Dawki.
Apart from providing better connectivity to Dawki, the road will be beneficial for trade and commerce with neighbouring Bangladesh.
M/s Transys Consulting Pvt Ltd is the contractor.
The DRP includes a four-lane road from Umshyrpi to Mylliem and a two-lane road connecting Dawki and Tamabil.
