J&K secure 1st, Manipur 2nd place

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir bagged first place in 2nd Jeet Kune Do Federation Cup which concluded on Saturday at S K Indoor Stadium in the summer capital, Srinagar.
While Manipur grabbed second position, Rajasthan bagged third place in the Federation Cup in which around 400 Martial Arts players, including national and international medalists, from 12 states participated. Lauding J&K state Jeet Kune Do Association for organising the event, the chief guest of the event Inspector General (IG) CRPF Kashmir Ravideep Sahai said that such event will help players from the state to showcase their talent. “I really want to congratulate the organisers of the event for hosting such an amazing event in the Valley.
Such events will provide a platform to our players to showcase their talent and improve on their performance,” the IG CRPF added. Several top players, who have represented their states and country at various national and international events, dazzled the audience with their entertaining demonstrations.
The sword demonstration from Manipur struck a cord with the audience while the fight demonstration by two Kashmiri girl players received huge appreciation from the crowd. Despite negative image of the valley portrayed by a section of the national media, we got good response from other states, who came here and allowed us the host them, said the organisors. ” Eighteen teams had confirmed their participation in the Federation Cup here but 6 teams declined to participate at the last moment because of the rumours about unrest in the valley. The situation is completely different then what is projected in the national media ” Tanzeel Ahmad, the Organizing secretary of the Federation Cup, said. Jeet Kune Do martial arts Federation India General Secretary Sifu Lion Vikas Gihara appreciating the hard work put in by the J&K state Jeet Kune Do association, said that the situation is entirely different from what is shown in the news channels.
“The players who will be selected after their performance in this Federation cup will qualify to participate in the Independent Day Cup for Jeet Kune Do Martial art to be held in New Delhi next month. The medalists from the Independent Cup will then represent the country at South Asian Jeet Kune Do championship in Sri Lanka in the month of October this year,” he added. (UNI)
