SHILLONG: The Association for Democracy and Empowerment (ADE) and Garo Students Union (GSU) have demanded construction of a guest house to help the people of the state during treatment at NEIGRIHMS.
The pressure groups also extended support to KSU for opposing allotment of land to Nagaland government for the purpose of construction of a guest house at Mawdiangdiang.
“The ADE and the GSU are not against any particular state or people being given infrastructural facilities for the patients who come for treatment at NEIGRIHMS but we express our concerns over the need to have a guest house facility for its own people (Khasi, Jaintia and Garo community).
“There are several people, who come from the nook and corner of the state for better medical facilities and the hardship being faced by our own people is where to stay during the treatment period”, the pressure groups said.
According to them, scarcity of cheap lodging facilities near the Institute compels the people to stay in costly hotels in Shillong.
“Moreover, the relatives of the patients have the arduous task of commuting 12 or 13 km daily for attending to their patients and hence we believe that the particular place alloted to the Nagaland state be allotted for the benefit of our own people and an alternative land which will be beneficial to the Nagas be allotted”, they said.
The ADE and GSU demanded that the authorities should provide boarding facilities for the people of Meghalaya immediately and that a guest house for the people of the state be constructed at the earliest.
