SHILLONG: KHADC CEM HS Shylla said the enforcement wing of the KHADC would be answerable regarding non-tribals traders operating without any trading license under the jurisdiction of the council.

In the wake of reports that some non-tribals without trading license were detected by Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Shylla questioned the operation of business of the non-tribals sans trading license.

He told reporters, “The Enforcement wing of the KHADC which monitors the licenses will have to be answerable as to how non-tribals can carry on with their trade without any license?”

“It means the enforcement wing of the KHADC will have to be answerable. Trade license system should be implemented in a stringent manner,” Shylla added.

Asked on demand for inquiry into ‘misuse of Rs 28 crore’ , Shylla said the statement made by PDF MDC Grace Mary Kharpuri demanding a CBI enquiry was unfounded.

“The statement of Grace Kharpuri demanding CBI enquiry is unfounded, she spoke without any understanding. I have spoken to the officers and files are being studied,” he said.

He added that presently nothing can be said as the Council will check whether the guidelines of the state government were followed or not vis-à-vis sp[ending of Rs 28 crore.
