SHILLONG: The Khasi Hills Democratic Alliance has named Teinwell Dkhar, the UDP MDC from Shella, for the post of chairperson of the district council, chief executive member HS Shylla has said.
The governor has fixed a special session for election of the chairman on Tuesday and filing of nomination is on Monday.
The opposition group People’s Democratic Alliance has said it will have a meeting on Monday morning to decide the candidate.
Dkhar is the Parliamentary Party leader of the UDP in the council.
The leader of the opposition alliance, James Ban Basaiawmoit, said, “We have received the nomination papers and will decide whom to send.”
However, he was cautious as he said discussion with the coalition MDCs will be held as the matter is pending with the court. “We will have to consult with legal advisors,” Basaiawmoit said.
The opposition alliance in the KHADC has the support of Congress MDCs.
