Indian teams win 15 medals at Junior Asian Cup Judo
NEW DELHI: Indian cadets and junior judokas won a whopping 15 medals including four golds, two silver and nine bronze in the Asian Cup held in Macau from July 20-22. The championship saw participation of players from 30 countries across five continents. The Indian teams included 29 members, comprising five males and seven female players in cadet category and seven male, six female players in junior category along with four coaches. The athletes went to Macau on July 15 when the team also attended the training camp from July 16-19. (PTI)
FC Pune City sign Robin Singh
PUNE: Indian Super League (ISL) club FC Pune City on Monday signed experienced India international Robin Singh to strengthen their front line for the 2018-19 season. The 28-year-old striker, who plied his trade for ATK last season, has made 30 appearances in the national team’s colour and will now reunite with his former Delhi Dynamos teammate Marcelinho, a media release said today. FC Pune City CEO Gaurav Modwel said the signing will add firepower to the team’s frontline. “Robin is a proven performer with a wealth of experience in top flight football. His dominating aerial prowess and robust presence upfront will add more power to our frontline,” Modwel said. Robin, a Tata Football Academy product, made his senior team debut with Kolkata giants East Bengal in 2010. (PTI)
India U-16 lose 0-3 to Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR: India Under-16 football team lost 0-3 to Malaysia in a friendly game as part of their exposure tour here on Monday. Indian U-16 boys, who have come to Malaysia at the back of a heart-wrenching loss to Thailand last week, started showing their intent right from the kick-off. Ridge blasted from inside the box in as early as the fourth minute but the Malaysian keeper took his time to parry it away. Malaysia, on the other hand, gave the Indian defenders a tough run for the money in their own box. (IANS)
