Pauline Warjri, president of Aroha Music and Cultural Society said the interest of the Welsh community was piqued when the Aroha Choir sang the Welsh national anthem in Khasi language and wanted to know more about the connection between the Khasi people and the Welsh.
Warjri said the competition was stiff and they were up against world class choirs. Theirs was the smallest choir in number.
She expressed her gratitude to parents, schools, neighbours since the choir would practise throughout the night.
She was also grateful for the Khasi community and the people of the North East residing in Wales who managed to raise 2040 pounds as well as the Nongthymmai Presbyterian church who donated Rs 55000.
“The children met people from all over the world, they learnt the Welsh culture and also to treat people with respect,” Warjri said.
