Kidnapped central govt staff rescued

SHILLONG: A staff with the Central Ground Water Board in the city, was kidnapped by some miscreants and later assaulted near Nongpoh on Tuesday.
The victim who hails from Basistha, Guwahati has been identified as Vimal Kalita.
Police said that as per the statement of the victim, who is a regular traveller on the Guwahati- Shillong road, the abductors tried to drug him near Shangbangla near Nongpoh but he was able to fight with them and jumped out of the vehicle.
Later, police rescued him and apprehended three persons in this connection.
Police said that the investigation was on to ascertain the motive of the crime.
However, police said the victim has changed his statement and hence police are waiting for more details before arriving at any conclusion.
Abetment
Spainlang Kharbyngar lodged a complaint that on July 23 around 4 am, one Orbitstar Kharmalki (40 years) abetted a 15-year-old boy to steal a hammer, seven stone chisels and blower from the labour camp of Ialad Nongkhlaw at Laitkor, Mawarliang (East Khasi Hills). Later, around 12 noon, the accused again abetted the minor boy to steal Rs 2,800.
