Ammunition recovered in city

SHILLONG: The Shillong police have recovered huge cache of arms and ammunitions in the city which was meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh through Tripura.
It was on Thursday that the police arrested two persons identified as Naresh Chakma (35) and Sambikash Chakma (28) from Sherowali Travel Agency counter.
Police informed that they recovered two hundred ninety-six rounds of live .32 ammunition, one hundred rounds of live AK ammunition and two .32 pistols from their possession.
East Khasi Hills SP, Davis Marak said that they were forwarded to the Court on Friday and the police have got seven days custody and proper questioning will be conducted.
The SP further added that as per the preliminary statements of the accused, they were to go to Tripura and the consignment was meant for somebody in Bangladesh.
The police are not ruling out if the consignment was meant for some militant groups in Bangladesh.
