SHILLONG: The appointment of a new DGP will take some more time as the USPC had asked more details regarding the names sent by the government.
The current DGP, SB Singh, will retire on Tuesday.
An official source said as per the July 3 Supreme Court order, the state government had sent names of senior police officers for consideration by UPSC.
“However, recently the UPSC made a few queries, including the need to send the annual confidential reports of the candidates,” the official added.
Since the government cannot immediately appoint the new DGP, a senior police official may be asked to officiate for the time being as the Supreme Court had also banned appointment of any acting DGP in the state.
