NONGPOH: Nongpoh Police have seized Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) amounting to Rs 10 lakh in Ri Bhoi on Saturday.
On receiving information regarding exchange of FICN with genuine currency, the police team led by DSP Headquarters, DSP Traffic, OC of Nongpoh Police Station conducted a checking where they came across a vehicle which even after several warnings from the officials did not stop. However, the police team managed to nab on person identified as Buddheshwar Dewri (24) of Assam, who is an employee at Jain Mobile Shop Police Bazar owned by Kamal Singhania.
The other two goons tried to flee in their vehicle bearing registration no AS 25 E 5624 (white Alto 800 Lxi) driving towards Marngar Umden.
In a hot pursuit, the police team followed the vehicle, however, on reaching Iewmawlong, the passengers of the vehicle threw a black airbag. This bag was retrieved by one of the police teams. Despite asking the occupants of the vehicle to stop, they did not pay any heed to such calls and continued to drive dangerously throughout the entire village endangering the life of school students and villagers. The vehicle then took the internal village road and stopped at a local house at Sohkhar Umden.
The police team recovered the vehicle but the occupant had fled away and could not be detained but documents of the vehicle were recovered and it is learnt that the vehicle was registered in the name of Md Sirajuli Ali from Kamalpur, Kamrup District, Assam.
Further, additional documents were recovered, including a photograph of the registered owner of vehicle, Ali which was identified by one of the villagers of Sohkhar village being one of the occupants who fled away from the vehicle.
The vehicle was seized from the place of recovery and was brought to Nongpoh Police Station.
Even after a search operation, the goons were not to be found.
However, the the villagers of Umkon village apprehended the two culprits namely Md. Sirajuli Ali (35) and Depankar Kalita 33.
