Conrad to file nomination today

TURA: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma will become the first to file his nomination on Tuesday for the by-election to South Tura constituency on August 23.
Filing of nominations began on Monday with the notification of the by-poll in the official gazette. There were no nominations on Day 1.
The chief minister is expected to arrive shortly before noon to file his papers with the returning officer at the deputy commissioner’s office here.
Conrad is expected to be accompanied by his mother Soradini K Sangma and elder brother and home minister James Pangsang K Sangma. Younger sister Agatha K Sangma, who gave up her seat for Conrad to get elected to the Assembly, is also expected to accompany him.While NPP moves into campaign mode following the filing of nomination papers, the opposition Congress is yet to officially announce its candidature.
The Congress has sent only one name, that of retired school principal Charlotte W Momin, to the party high command for approval.
Model code in place
With the enforcement of the model of code of conduct in South Tura, the West Garo Hills SP has appealed to the general public to comply and cooperate with the law enforcing agencies while conducting naka checking, area domination and other law and order duties.
The district police chief has requested the public to inform them in case of observance of any suspicious movement of potential miscreants or trouble mongers or sightings of any abandoned bag.

All licensed arms holders in the constituency have been directed to deposit firearms at Tura Sadar police station, New Tura beat house, Chandmari beat house or Dobasipara beat house before August 15.
