TURA: Garo Hills organisations including the Tengsak led GSU CEC, AYWO and FKJGP have questioned the decision of the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) to cancel the selection of candidates for recruitment to vacant posts at Food Craft Institute (FCI) in Tura.
According to them, the MPSC had invited applications from genuine citizens of India for appointment to two posts of assistant lecturers at FCI, Tura. And while 20 candidates were selected to appear for the interview on June 27 in Shillong, their candidatures were later declared ineligible for the posts.
“We are perturbed by the fact that 20 candidates were selected for the interview based supposedly on their eligibility but later declared ineligible for the post.
The question arises why the hopeful aspirants were asked to appear for the interview when it was known that they are probably not eligible for the post. Is the whole interview a whitewash, an intended subterfuge? Were two persons already selected clandestinely for the post but due to wrong calculations and circumstances unable to be effected?” the organisations asked.
In their letter to the Chairman of the MPSC, the organisations informed that while checking the credentials of 12 Garo candidates who were among those selected, it was found that some of them fulfilled the criteria and were eligible for the posts.
The organisations also questioned the fact that despite Meghalaya having the Job Reservation Policy, the MPSC had invited ‘genuine citizens of India’ when there were only two posts and hinted at manipulation taking place.
“There were rumours two weeks or so before the conduct of the interview that the interview will be cancelled because two candidates chosen clandestinely for the vacant posts have opted for a different employment opportunity.
The warning came true and the candidates have been declared ineligible despite appearing for the interview,” they alleged.
Pointing out that time and money of the candidates have been unnecessary wasted, the organisations while condemning the MPSC for the move demanded that the two most eligible candidates are selected and appointed as assistant lecturers of FCI in line with the reservation policy.
Warning that the matter would be pursued at the highest level, the organisations said that they would not hesitate to agitate if their demand remains unfulfilled.
