Awareness programme on substance abuse held in city

SHILLONG: A one day seminar on “Substance Dependence: Prevention and Remedial Action” was organised by the Department of Psychology, Martin Luther Christian University at its campus on Thursday.
The seminar centred on educating future counsellors and social workers on the harsh realities of substance dependence.
The seminar hosted resource persons from various aspects which included renowned psychiatrist E Mukhim, clinical psychologist J Lynghoh, Rebina Subba, Advocate, Davis R Marak, IPS, SP, East Khasi Hills, Father George, Director, Siloam and Rev. David Jamir.
E Mukhim stressed on the importance and urgency of a ‘State Drug Policy’ which can regulate and make the state a drug-free zone.
Other speakers also stressed on the fact that substance dependency is a disease.
