SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma felicitated students who had topped their Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations earlier this year at a programme organised by the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) in the city on Thursday.
Speaking at the felicitation programme, Sangma said that universities should play an important role through research and collaboration with the government.
“Our Universities should be involved at the highest level of research to assess the impact of different policies of the government. They should play a bigger role and report to the government with constructive suggestions so that the government is able to take an informed decision for the greater interest of the society,” he said.
He also informed that the Education Policy conceived by the government is in its final stage of completion and will be released soon.
“We are committed that the policy will guide us in our mission to enhance education facilities and services for the student community,” Sangma added.
Sangma also stated that the government has collaborated with institutions in the state to ensure that students from Meghalaya qualify for the Indian Civil Service examinations.
Touching on the subject of entrepreneurship, Sangma said that the potential of the youth has to be harnessed through entrepreneurship.
“We are trying to create an environment for our youth to be engaged in meaningful livelihood opportunities by promoting entrepreneurship,” he said.
USTM in collaboration with ERD Foundation, Guwahati felicitated all the 40 toppers of SSLC 2018 under the Meghalaya Board of School Education.
