SHILLONG: The state government is in the process of finalising the sites where facilities for the National Games 2022 will be built.
Speaking to media persons after holding a meeting with line departments for the Games, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said the government “has fast tracked everything” and made a lot of headway into the project.
He added that the government has already floated the expression of interest for consultants for the mega event, besides starting the process to identify land.
However, Sangma admitted that there are several bottlenecks like getting land funds but state is also in talks for investment, which needs to come from the Centre, for hosting the event.
He added that the government would require fund since it has to develop sporting facilities, Games villages, roads, water supply and even hotel rooms.
An estimated 14,450 athletes and officials are expected to visit the state during the event, which is scheduled to be held in a four-year time from now.
