Swachh Survekshan Gramin 2018 launched in Meghalaya

SHILLONG: The State PHE Department has initiated the process of ranking the districts under a nationwide programme known as Swachh Survekshan Gramin 2018, survey of the overall cleanliness status of the villages which has been commissioned by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, as part of the on-going Swachh Bharat Mission in the entire country.

The programme was launched   here on Friday at the State level by                     . W. R. Lyngdoh, Secretary to the Govt of Meghalaya who is also the Mission Director, Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin)

Speaking on the occasion, W R Lyngdoh, in his speech briefed the gathering on the concept and objectives of the SSG2018 as a follow up of the progress made by the State in the sanitation sector.

A Lyngkhoi, State Coordinator, SBM (G) highlights the mode and modalities of the survey and informed that similar launching of the SSG2018 will be done also at District, Block and Village level.

Under the SSG 2018, an independent survey agency has already been appointed by the Government of India which is conducting the Survey during the month of August 2018.

The survey team will undertake a sampling survey of selected villages in which samples of households, schools, anganwadi centres, churches, market places and public places would be visited to assess their cleanliness status. Besides, citizen’s feedbacks will also be taken and would be added to the overall findings of the survey.

Top performing districts will be given national awards on October 2 by the Prime Minister of India
