TURA: A militant belonging to the Assam-based National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) has reportedly been killed in a gun battle that took place between the militant group and police in a village under Songsak police station in East Garo Hills.
Police launched an early morning operation on Friday after receiving information about the presence of a mixed group of around 10 men comprising NDFB militants and Garo miscreants at Tarasin village.
The police team was approaching the village when the group armed with assault rifles and small arms fired at them leading to a brief gun battle in which one militant was killed on the spot while the others escaped. The incident had taken place around 6 am.
Soon after the incident, police were able to identify the slain militant as Koma Boro of NDFB. They found an AK rifle and a magazine.
According to police, many who managed to escape might have been injured as there was blood trail at the site of the incident.
“We believe that at least 3 or 4 other militants may have been injured as there are many blood trails leading from the encounter site,” East Garo Hills SP, R T G Momin said.
Meanwhile, the body of the militant has been sent for postmortem and a case is also being registered in connection with the incident.
