Mawkyrwat: MPCC working president James Lyngdoh on Friday said there was no “match fixing with any political parties” for the Ranikor by-election and the party is fighting the poll to win.
“We are not short of candidates as we have three aspirant candidates for the by-poll, JC Diengngan, Leenga Sangma and Jackiush K Sangma. Other parties may claim that the Congress is just “formally filling up names”, but it is not like that. Lyngdoh said this after Jackiush filed his nomination papers for the Ranikor by-poll in Mawkyrwat on Friday.
“As working president, I want to clarity that from the party, there is no discussion or understanding with any political party and the two aspirant candidates are also here to support the candidate so that we can win the election,” Lyngdoh said.
Rumours were that that the Congress party is supporting UDP for the Ranikor by-poll by fielding a Garo candidate in order to split the vote-bank of five-time MLA and NPP candidate, MM Danggo so that the UDP candidate, Pius Marwein can win the election.
Congress spokesperson and Mawsynram MLA, Himalaya Shangpliang said the preparation of the party for the by-election has already started and the party is confident that it can retain the seat left vacant after the resignation of MM Danggo.
“This election will be an interesting one because as a party we have got a candidate who is a resident of the constituency
( from Poksora near Ranikor and he was also a Congress youth leader who has been associated with the party since 2007. We firmly believe that he will be able to take over the place of MM Danggo,” Shangpliang added.
“People may claim that we just fill-up the names for the sake of the election, but I want to tell you that there is no arrangement with anyone to allow the UDP to win the election. If there is such a rumour , that is a mistake because we will go to the election with an aim to win and retain the seat of the party,” Shangpliang stated.
Secretary of the Ranikor Block Congress Committee, JC Diengngan said he will support the candidate of the party and work hard to ensure his victory.
