GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has asked his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma to ensure smooth movement of people and vehicles from his state, according to an official source here.
Sonowal told Sangma over phone on Saturday that harassment of people from Assam has also been brought to the notice of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. He sought Sangma’s expeditious intervention.
The Meghalaya chief minister assured Sonowal that he would take all measures in this regard.
The hill state has tightened vigil at its borders with Assam after the publication of the final draft NRC list and there were reports of police and authorities as well as pressure groups stopping people from the neighbouring state from entering Meghalaya.
