SHILLONG: With the state still grappling with pending cases of rape in courts, another case has surfaced involving an 8-year-old girl and her 14-year-old neighbour.
The father of the accused allegedly brushed aside the rape incident by saying “he does it with his 11-year-old relative too”. The relative stays with the family of the accused.
The rape incident came to light on July 28 when a neighbour found the boy and the girl together when he was allegedly trying to sexually abuse her.
An FIR was lodged the next day at Madanrting police station. Police took the girl’s statement on Tuesday, her mother told The Shillong Times.
“She never told us anything. The boy had committed the crime thrice. He threatened to strangle her if she discloses it to anyone,” the girl’s mother said. (Contd on P-10)

“She (her daughter) would often go their house to watch TV as ours is not working,” the mother said.
