SHILLONG: The Urban Affairs Department has proposed a commercial complex in Polo, besides facelift of important commercial hubs in the city. A source in the department said the complex will cover 5,095 sqm and the cost is expected to be below Rs 43 crore. It will come up next to the Polo Vendors Market that is being constructed. “Consultants have been engaged for the preparation of an architectural and engineering design of the commercial complex,” the official said.
The commercial shopping complex is proposed to house 80 high-end shops and accommodate an approximate number of 206 cars in the parking areas. Moreover, the complex will have toilets, exhibition space and amphitheatre.
As for the source of funding, the official said the state government might go for the Smart City funding or direct funding. It may be mentioned that Smart City funding pattern is 50:50.
Similarly, the department will also engage consultants for preparation of DPR for redevelopment of municipal market in Laitumkhrah.
The official said the market, which has a total area of 5,000 sqm will be redeveloped into a commercial complex with modern amenities.
The DPR might amount to Rs 30 crore. It will replace the existing market while the present municipal market with parking lot will be dismantled. The department is looking for funding for the same.
A cement slab recently fell off at Laitumkhrah market sparking safety concerns in the area.
