SHILLONG: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) said that the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) is the guardian of Assamese students studying in Meghalaya.
AASU advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya said this while attending the freshers’ meet cum felicitation programme of the Shillong Socio-Cultural Assamese Students’ Association (SSASA) in the city on Sunday.
Bhattacharya also maintained that in Assam, AASU is the guardian of Khasi students studying there.
The senior student leader said he firmly believes that under the leadership of KSU, the Assamese students would carry forward their studies in the right earnest, adding, “With this spirit of oneness we can create a congenial atmosphere in the North East.”
The programme began on the Assam Kristi Kendra premises in Shillong with hoisting of the flag by chief guest Donald V Thabah, the general secretary of KSU.
In his speech, Thabah said KSU is always there to extend its helping hand to Assamese students. He emphasised on holding this kind of programme saying “it helps in creating a bonding among students belonging to various communities”.
Thabah called upon students to strive for preserving identity, culture, heritage and language of their respective tribes or communities.
The programme was organised to welcome those Assamese students who have come to Shillong to study in various educational institutions and also to felicitate the outgoing students.
