TURA: In view of the Draft Publication of National Registration of Citizens (NRC) in Assam on July 30, South West Garo Hills district administration has put in place security measures to check infiltration into the district.
In this connection, a joint coordination meeting was held between the Deputy Commissioner, Ram Kumar S and his counterpart from Mankachar, Assam at South Salmara recently.
Two round-the-clock checkpoints have been set up at Jhunjuni and Mir Jumla, Thakuranbari with two police sectors under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police, S.R. Marak to cover the areas along the inter-state border of Assam and Meghalaya. Mobile patrolling and Nakas are being conducted by the respective officers-in-charge and circle inspectors of police stations and outposts within the district.
Meanwhile, the district police have also convened series of meetings with the Nokmas and residents of the inter-state border areas to sensitise them on the issues of infiltration.
