SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party (UDP) who is looking forward to share seats with its alliance HSPDP for next year’s election of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), has asserted that all the sitting MDCs of the UDP would be given ticket for the MDC elections

UDP general secretary, Jemino Mawthoh said that all the MDCs would be given tickets except those who had serious allegations against them.

On the seat sharing between UPD and HSPDP, Mawthoh said that it would not be a formal alliance between the two parties but both parties were looking forward to have some kind of understanding in the different constituencies at least in the KHADC.

He also informed that they had constituted a sub-committee headed with UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh as the convener adding that the committee already had several deliberations on the seat sharing between the two parties.

Mawthoh, however, admitted that it was not easy for two political parties to work with each other since each political party had got their own ideologies, principles and party organisations.

“We have been able to tie up with the HSPDP as partner of the MDA. We are working together for next year’s MDC elections. The understanding is only for KHADC and may be later we can even tie up for the JHADC,” UDP general secretary said.

Meanwhile, Mawthoh informed that they have also constituted the State Election Committee for the Lok Sabha elections in 2019.

It may be mentioned that the members in the State Election Committee include Party president, Dr Donkupar Roy, party general secretary Jemino Mawthoh, party vice-president, Allantry F Dkhar, party MLAs and MDCs, district presidents and party top functionaries like Bindo Mathew Lanong, Smeera A Sangma, Pretty Kharpynroge, and Banalari Khongwar among others.
