Cop caught while taking bribe

GUWAHATI:  Anti-corruption and vigilance cell of Assam police has arrested a sub-inspector of Assam Police, Biren Kumar Bora posted at Paltan Bazar police station here after he was caught red-handed while taking bribe in a city hotel from a person,  Jayanta Das who had been granted bail by Gauhati High Court in a case registered with Paltan Bazar police station.

A police source informed that Jayanta Das was granted bail by Gauhati High Court in a case  of Paltan Bazar police station. But sub-inspector of police Biren Kumar Bora sought Rs 40,000 as bribe from Das for execution of the bail granted by the court. Das then informed the anti-corruption and vigilance wing of Assam police about the bribe sought by the police officer who later caught red handed while receiving bribe of Rs 20,000 at Hotel Victoria in Paltan Bazar.  The manager of the hotel Jatindra Nath has also been arrested  in the connection.
